NASW-NC Essentials Series: Animals in Social Work Conference
- This event has passed.
The roles of animals in our lives are changing now more than ever. Companion animals are considered members of our families and there is increasing evidence-based research showing the benefits of animal-assisted interventions for a wide variety of illnesses and conditions. As the changing roles of animals in our lives are showcased in mainstream media, social media, and in conversations and interactions in our communities, it’s time to really consider where social work will come in with all of these changes.
Social work is the only profession with a dual focus on holistically addressing individual issues and using social policy to affect change. That, combined with social work’s emphasis on individual strengths and empowerment, gives us the foundation to be the leading profession regarding understanding and developing interventions that address animal-human relationships.
The important work of animal-assisted healing is of growing interest to the Social Work profession. The National Association of Social Workers – NC Chapter is hosting a conference on August 3, 2019 to address this very issue. Click here for more information on this event, or to register to attend!
