Social Work Faculty and Students Recognized with Awards

Congratulations to the following social work faculty and students who were recently recognized for their service and contribution to the field:

Linda Williams recently won the university’s Faculty Adviser Award. The award ceremony, held at the Witherspoon Student Center on January 24, was sponsored by the Division of Academic and Student Affairs and Academic Advising Services. She also received the NACADA Region III Excellence in Advising – Faculty Role award for the state of North Carolina. This award was presented to Williams at the NACADA Region III conference in West Virginia on April 29.

Barbara Zelter received the 2014 Myrna Miller Wellons Advocacy Award. She was selected by the National Association of Social Workers North Carolina Chapter (NASW-NC) Legislative Committee as this year’s recipient because of her deep advocacy roots on behalf of the social work profession and social work students of North Carolina. Zelter received the award at NASW-NC’s Annual March Ethics Conference and Awards Luncheon in March 2014. Suzanne Martin

 

Suzanne Martin received the student award for Equity for Women Awards at NC State’s Council on the Status of Women 2014 Sisterhood Dinner in March 2014. Martin is a graduate student who is president of the social work honor society Phi Alpha and a member of the social work department’s advisory board and committee on diversity, recruitment and retention.

 

CHASS Merit Scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year were awarded to the following undergraduate students:

Casey Brantley, Junior, Social Work
Emma Cathell, Sophomore, Social Work & Spanish
Andrew Johnson, Junior, Psychology & Social Work
Amy Thai, Sophomore, International Studies & Social Work

The following students have been awarded the 2014-15 Abraham Holtzman Scholarship from CHASS Council:

Casey Brantley, Junior, Social Work
Amy Thai, Sophomore, International Studies & Social Work.

These are one-year awards that recognize leadership and service to NCSU and to CHASS in particular.
